Spring has arrived in Helsinki with a handful of nice days. However, we just made it through a long week of overcast skies with periods of rain. That kind of weather that has me thinking more about future autumn knits rather than the summer sewing projects I should be planning now.
At the end of April, Laine released their latest knitting and crochet anthology, 52 Weeks of Shawls. Much like their first one, 52 Weeks of Socks, this new collection will provide you with many scarves, shawls and cowls to knit for years to come. The Spring Equinox just passed and supposedly spring is coming to Helsinki. Supposedly. I will acknowledge that our days are much longer and we have afternoons where the sun is not blocked by cloud cover, but the temperatures are still hovering just above or below zero degrees. I’m even still skating at our local outdoor rink.

As we move closer to the winter solstice, the nights and even days are incredibly dark here in Helsinki. We just went a week without actual sunlight, the weather has been overcast and very, very grey. I am currently working on a lot of new projects that unfortunately, I cannot share at the moment. From the view through social media, it must look like I am not up to much at the moment. However, there are plenty of new items on my needles that will be unearthed in the Spring. Right now, I do have one project to share with you. It is older but I have not shared the design process of this one yet. Let’s take a closer look at Afield, orignally published last winter in Pom Pom Quarterly’s Issue 31. I also wanted to share something I am changing about my self-published patterns but more on that towards the end.

This past November, you probably saw the launch of Knit With Attitude’s 10th anniversary book of knitted and crocheted designs. If you have not, I will give you a little background information first. Knit With Attitude is a yarn shop based in Stoke Newington, London, that specialize in ethical and eco-friendly yarn. Owner, Maya Bing, started the business over ten years ago and wanted to mark the occasion with a special collection.

I wanted to share my latest pattern which was released last week. Amongst the current restrictions due to Covid-19, many yarn businesses have had to implement major changes in their logistics in order to continue working safely from home. This latest release has given me a lot to look forward to and also has me feeling very thankful that this was still able to happen. I hope this new Wool People Collection has brought a little light and creative joy into the daily routines of knitters and the group of designers involved.
