Windgate - Wrapped Up in Laine's 52 Weeks of Shawls

Spring has arrived in Helsinki with a handful of nice days. However, we just made it through a long week of overcast skies with periods of rain. That kind of weather that has me thinking more about future autumn knits rather than the summer sewing projects I should be planning now.

At the end of April, Laine released their latest knitting and crochet anthology, 52 Weeks of Shawls. Much like their first one, 52 Weeks of Socks, this new collection will provide you with many scarves, shawls and cowls to knit for years to come. It was in May last year, when I found out that my submission for this collection had been selected. In this post, I wanted to share the inspiration behind my design, Windgate.

The Arrival of Alvar - Laine's 52 Weeks of Socks

So for my first blog post, now that I am officially back in business, I thought I would share my first pattern released as a Helsinki based entrepreneur. I think it was October of 2018 when Laine first approached me about collaborating on a sock publication. I was in, instantly. My own collection of sock designs has been slowly growing and I also love seeing knitwear magazines grow and expand into book publishing.

Designs of 2017

I thought a little recap of this past year's pattern releases would be fun. During 2017, I focused on publishing more than ever and the results was overwhelimg and higher than expected. In total, I published 15 new designs, the most in one year every for me. I had three new opportunities to work with yarn companies, plus one new knitwear magazine. It's been a year of hard work but well worth it. The new relationships developed with those in the industry have been a highlight. Continuing to connect with knitters through social media or at yarn festivals was also a big pleasure this year.
