When I published a post back in May, I mentioned the amount of rain and overcast skies that we were experiencing in Helsinki. Two months later and I can report that we’ve hardly seen those grey skeins since. It’s been all sun and it is starting to show in the parks, these naturally green spaces have turned yellow. I’m surprised my garden box hasn’t turned to ash yet. I am finding it hard to focus on knitting, especially when that project is a wool and mohair sweater sitting on your lap. We’re due for some rain this week, we need it badly, so I’ll get back to it again. If it wasn’t so hot and humid, I’d be thinking of more knitting. This latest design is something I see myself living in this autumn and winter.

Today, I will introduce you to my latest design with amirisu magazine. Stripe, colour work and lace fill the pages of Issue 22, as well as a beautiful craft guide to Okinawa. Due to covid, the amirisu team decided to explore areas of Japan outside of the mainland. There are twelve knitting patterns inside and my contribution, Fay, is one of them. This summery collection is photographed in and around the Osaka Prefectural Flowers Garden and I am here for the lush green vibes after spending a winter indoors.

Spring has arrived in Helsinki with a handful of nice days. However, we just made it through a long week of overcast skies with periods of rain. That kind of weather that has me thinking more about future autumn knits rather than the summer sewing projects I should be planning now.
At the end of April, Laine released their latest knitting and crochet anthology, 52 Weeks of Shawls. Much like their first one, 52 Weeks of Socks, this new collection will provide you with many scarves, shawls and cowls to knit for years to come. It was in May last year, when I found out that my submission for this collection had been selected. In this post, I wanted to share the inspiration behind my design, Windgate.

The Spring Equinox just passed and supposedly spring is coming to Helsinki. Supposedly. I will acknowledge that our days are much longer and we have afternoons where the sun is not blocked by cloud cover, but the temperatures are still hovering just above or below zero degrees. I’m even still skating at our local outdoor rink.

I wanted to share my latest pattern which was released last week. Amongst the current restrictions due to Covid-19, many yarn businesses have had to implement major changes in their logistics in order to continue working safely from home. This latest release has given me a lot to look forward to and also has me feeling very thankful that this was still able to happen. I hope this new Wool People Collection has brought a little light and creative joy into the daily routines of knitters and the group of designers involved.
