PENNARD CASTLE
PENNARD CASTLE
Fiona Alice published her first knitting book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, with Pom Pom Press in 2015. Those patterns are now slowly becoming available as individual downloads for the first time.
“Every Saturday morning my mother and I would travel into the city for my class at Halifax Dance Studio, always followed by a highly anticipated trip to the farmers’ market. These legwarmers were inspired by my dancing years, and by the simplicity of alternating knits and purls. They begin with a thick band of ribbing followed by a gradient change of reverse stocking stitch and then a simple broken rib texture.” - Excerpt from Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey

3 mm / US 2.5 DPNs or circular needle, 80 cm / 32” length for magic loop
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Notions: Fine elastic thread, tapestry needle
Notes: These legwarmers are worked inside out so that the majority of the stitches are knit instead of purl – ultimately the legwarmers are reversible and can be worn with either texture of the Broken Rib showing.
The fine elastic thread and yarn are held together whilst working the band of ribbing at the top of the leg. Hold the elastic taught as you knit it. Using the elastic is highly recommended but not necessary.
This download contains two versions of the pattern, one for print and one that is mobile friendly.
