METROLLA

€4.50

Metrolla was originally published in The Knitter, Issue 113, and Fiona Alice’s first design for the publication. This is toe-up sock design featuring vertical stripes of colour. It is the ideal project for using up some special skeins of hand-dyed yarn, especially in two boldly contrasting shades. Fiona has used Tough Sock from The Uncommon Thread, which is hand-dyed in Brighton in a range of delicious colours.

This product listing is for the PDF pattern for the garment pictured and described here and not the actual finished item.

Notions: 2 stitch markers, darning needle

Notes: These socks are worked from the toe up. This pattern is written as if the knitter is using the Magic Loop Method: the top of the foot is worked across the first needle and the sole of the foot is worked across the second needle. However, DPNs can be used instead: work instructions for first needle across 1st and 2nd DPNs, for second needle work across 3rd and 4th DPNs.

Each contracting stripe of Yarn A is worked in Intarsia, with its own strand of yarn to avoid long floats on the side of the sock. Simply pull the stand up from two rounds below when it is required. To make it more manageable, cut several lengths of Yarn A, 60 cm / 24” long. If the length of yarn runs out before the line is completed, cut another length and join it. When each line is finished, trim the excess yarn, leaving a tail to weave in later. Make sure to leave enough of the old and new strands to be able weave in later.
