Fiona Alice
Fiona Alice is a knitwear designer from Nova Scotia, Canada, but now resides in Helsinki, Finland. When Fiona is not working on a new design, she can be found enjoying her favourite cafes with a cup of tea or on walks through the many seaside trails through the city.
Fiona’s knitting journey began at a young age she when she learned how to knit from her mother. Over the years she picked up the knitting needles from time to time but always remained on a creative path. Knitting stayed a hobby while Fiona complete her Bachelors of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University where she pursued textiles and fashion. During her degree, Fiona had the opportunity to study abroad at the Glasgow School of Art and Design in Glasgow, Scotland. Knitting was a part of the textile program and Fiona’s interest in the craft began to grow again.
After graduation and back in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Fiona began working at a local yarn shop where she was constantly learning more techniques and trying new yarns. From here, Fiona started to develop her own designs which eventually turned into patterns. In 2013, Fiona published her first pattern, Take Heart Hat, in the knitting magazine, Pom Pom Quarterly. Since then, Fiona has worked with other publications such as Amirisu, Laine, The Knitter, Making Magazine and with yarn companies like Brooklyn Tweed, The Fibre Company, Hinterland, and many more. In 2015, Fiona published her first book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, with Pom Pom Press.
